Part One
Composition: I used the light from the bathroom. It is a harsh light and I had to play around with the picture in order to have be stand out from the wall.
Concept: This photograph is representing self identity. As a woman it has always been hard to find who I am because society puts such a tough role on us and how we should be. I used the camera to block out my face, although it is somewhat letting my self identity shine though if one is reading between the lines. You do the math.
Method: At first I used my bed room as the background because what represents my identity more then my own stuff. But the background was way to cluttered so I used a nice plan white background and added a black shirt in order to stand out against it. I also thought the tile added a nice texture.
Motivations: My goal with to take away who I was, but at the same time I am telling a story because being creative has become a part of life, as well as photography.
Context: This photo can be looked a from a number of angles. It shows self identity, women rights, and a story about the photographer.
Part Two
Interpretation: When viewed by the class they liked how it took out my whole face to prove self identity.
Evaluation:The class really liked how the photo was cropped. They also like how large they camera looked. They thought I should alter it a bit from the original image that I showed to the class on Thursday. That is what I did. I hope they like it.
Extension: I think it would be interesting to use different objects to take away different peoples personalities.
Part One
Composition: The lighting the the library provides is very bright and it did the books justice by making the whites of the pages brighter then expected.
Concept: I wanted to tell a story about how books are a banded from day to day. There are so many books in this world filled with so many interesting things that there is no way all the books that MSU library has get read every year.
Method: I construct a scene and search for the brightest books I could find. I used a library stool to place the books on and rotated then in an interesting manner.
Motivations: At first my motivations were to show how students spend their college lives studying at the library, but then I got the idea to show how books become abandoned.
Context: This photo shows how old books are. In a scenes if they all work together they will create something strong and sturdy. For example, if I were to read all of these book I would gain an abundance of knowledge that I could later use to benefit myself.
Part Two
Interpretation: After I explained what I was going for with the narrative the class really like they idea of abandoning the books of the library.
Evaluation: The class really liked how I showed the white edges of the pages rather then the binding. It gave the books a new outlook.
Extension: I would want to continue my narrative about the abandoned books and see how far I could take the idea.
Part One
Composition: I wanted to use interesting angles to show studying at the library because straight ones are borning. I also used the light from the room and tried to get a close up of the pen and have it in focus.
Concept: I found showing how students spend their time at the library came best from the angle.
Method: I let scene the scene fall into place because I wanted it to have a natural looked to it and not a placed one.
Motivations: My original idea for the narrative was studying at the library and this was the best image I had of that. I also could not part with it because I really enjoy the way the type takes your eyes a crossed the picture.
Context: This photo demonstrates the tools a student needs to have in order to make it through a semester here at Michigan State University.
Part Two
Interpretation: The class enjoyed this photo but they liked the other direction I was going with the abandoning of the books.
Evaluation: The class enjoyed how the pen was in focus and it lead off the page.
Extension: I would still love the idea of capturing a student studying. I think playing with the view I had from behind the books would be interesting.
Part One
Composition: I set a scene up so that she could look into the mirror so one could see both images of her.
Concept: This photo is showing that she is okay with being who she is. She is okay with who she is even though she is not the typical stick model. Who is?
Method: I construct a scene and used a lot of brainstorming for this image. I was not sure how I wanted to place her in order to make her feel comfortable with confidence and show everything I wanted.
Motivations: The motivations I had for this image came from dove. The dove adds reminded me of how beauty come in all shapes and sizes.
Context: In order to show that she was comfortable in her own skin I wanted her to have her head held high and her eyes looking at herself. When one is confident they could stair at themselves all day in the mirror.
Part Two
Interpretation: The classes interpretation of this image as a self image photograph.
Evaluation: The class like how her head was held high so they could tell she was confident to be who she is and not what other want her to be.
Extension: I would love to do a series of comfortable in your own skin and show people doing things that most would completely be uncomfortable with. This would allow the viewer to see the idea behind the photograph.
